Zircon is ZrSiO4
hardness: 6.5 to 7.5
zircon as a mineral

Many faceted zircons have been heat treated between 850 and 1000 degrees Celsius in order
to improve their color.  Heating in the presence of air creates a golden yellow.  Heated without
air produces a blue color.
