     When The Rocky Mountains moved upwards, the pushed the overly sedimentary rock layer to the side,
creating complex folds.

     Some of these folds are nicely displayed in central Montana, adjacent to the Rocky Mountains.

Here is an unmarked view of the folds.  Vegetation, agriculture, and river drainage tend to mask some of the
fold structures.

Carefully marking the folds using the measuring tool as a drawing device greatly enhances the fold pattern.
